Connecting the PBX - Quant Tracer Software
******************************************

1. Purchase or make null-modem-like cable connecting your PBX with the PC, using scheme from the next page. The PBX has a standard serial RS-232 port with either 25-pin female or 9-pin SUB-D male connector. The PC has either 25-pin or 9-pin SUB-D male connector. You can use UTP or FTP cable and unshielded SUB-D connectors. Alternatively, if you want to use your existing UTP (FTP) computer network, connect the PBX with SUB-D -> RJ-45 cable to a free wall connector, and on the other side RJ-45 -> SUB-D from the wall connector to the PC. Cross-connect the wall-connectors on the patch panel. Apply the connector wiring accordingly.

2. Connect the cable to the PBX on one end and to a free serial COM port on the PC.

3. Configure the PBX from the master telephone set for RS-232 communication. Select speed of 9600 bps, 8 data bits, None parity, and 1 stop bit. Please consult your PBX manual for this.

4. Start a terminal program (like HyperTerminal from Windows) and select Connect Directly to COM port. Make a selection of the serial COM port on which the cable from the PBX is connected. Select speed of 9600 bps, 8 data bits, None parity, 1 stop bit and Hardware Handshake.

5. Start the connection by selecting <Connect> (or similar, if you use another Terminal software).

6. The next telephone call hang-up will initiate the PBX to start sending the information to the PC. You should see the Terminal software receiving telephone calls information from the PBX.

7. If everything is OK and you can see the data clearly, write down the settings for COM port number, Data bits, Parity, Stop bits and Handshake in the table bellow and proceed to Quant Tracer Installation Guide. Otherwise, carefully check the cable pin connection. If it is OK, check the RS-232 communication settings in your PBX. If this is also OK, try selecting other parameters, both in your Terminal program and your PBX. These two should match.
